Recipes: Nailed It!

You know the pages of PINTEREST FAILS - NAILED IT! ??? [If you don't, look here for some giggles.]

The reason I bring this up is because I cook a ton, and use a lot of recipes from the internet. I have a really difficult time sticking to a recipe, either because I might not have an ingredient on hand, or because I have something in mind that I think will work as well/better/or just differently. Most of the time, my changes work out great!

I think it's important for a lot of us to realize that a recipe can be considered more of a "suggestion" than an actual set of rules that must be followed. So many of us get caught up in not having the "perfect", "correct" ingredients, that we let it stop us from cooking. So in my Nailed It! series, I want to show you the substitutions that I might make, and the ones I actually do make (and why), and let you know how well things turned out.

It's true of so many things and it's also true for cooking: Don't let perfect be the enemy of really very super good! And who knows, if you take this approach to cooking, you might make something that is even better than the original recipe. Cooking can be a creative outlet, if you let it be.

Finally, don't take it from me, take it from Michael Pollan. "As rates of home cooking decline, rates of obesity go up." As obesity goes up, metabolic disease begins to happen... leading to chronic problems. It's a lot healthier for your body (as well as your wallet) to take more care in cooking at home.
